Keeping it interesting

I will be adding a notepad entry to the bottom of some posts as a kind of workspace in dealing with any additional research/mathematics and modeling approaches I can think of.

It will be marked as such and I will reference it of course, but I make no promises as to its accuracy or applicability to a specific topic. Certainly if you see something incorrect inform me in the comments.

Occasionally, to generate content I will use the Maxima package as it is much like mathematics packages used in colleges and university math courses. It is however completely free and open source.

If you would like like a copy of the package it is available for download by clicking the link and following the instructions. [It is available through the general Linux package system as well].

Maxima, a Computer Algebra System

Other useful, free, open source packages all run on multiple platforms :

LibreOffice - productivity suite for Windows, Macintosh and GNU/Linux

Gimp -  photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

Inkscape - vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format.

And of course if you need an entire OS -  Ubuntu Linux
